The best fermented vegetables

Vegetables are healthy, but have you tried fermenting your favourite vegetables?

If you aren’t well informed about the benefits and goodness of fermented vegetables, you’re missing out big time! Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place, we’re going to fill you in on the best fermented vegetables, their benefits and how to get your hands on them!

To start off with, the best fermented vegetables are not only delicious but fresh, healthy (because they are filled with probiotics) and it’s very easy to make. You don’t need much at all, and you don’t have to worry about time…It might take a couple of days for the vegetables to ferment but once that is done, then you’re good to go because fermentation is used for preservation.

So, let’s get right to it!

Question: What are the best fermented vegetables?

Answer: The simple answer to this is, almost any vegetable!

But, to be more specific…I’ll tell you some of my favourite and best fermented vegetables.

Vegetables like cabbage, jalapeno peppers or cucumbers, peppers, carrots and cauliflower rank pretty high! A lot of the vegetables I have mentioned I make on a regular basis. You can also find some of their recipes on our website too. Here is a great and simple fermented Jalapeno Peppers recipe, which works as an enjoyable snack!

If you enjoy making this recipe, then you’ll love all the others that are on the way!

It doesn’t stop there, you can mix vegetables together and ferment it, just like sauerkraut (Cabbage, mixed with carrots and garlic which can be fermented together).

From Kimchi, Sauerkraut, pickled vegetables, to fermented juice, radishes, beetroot and even cheese (although, that’s isn’t a vegetable) You can ferment anything. The ones I’ve mentioned above however, are by far the best fermented vegetables there is out there and you can start making them by following our easy, online recipes, joining one of our fermentation groups or attending a live lesson, if you are in our area!

Just a side note: I think it’s pretty clear that you can ferment almost any vegetable, however some green leafy vegetables have enough moisture in them to create their own brine, or some vegetables have higher water content! This is where the process differs a bit or you may need to add a different ingredient…otherwise it’s perfectly fine to just ferment it!

What’s the big deal with fermentation!

Benefits, plenty of benefits! There is an incredible amount of probiotics in fermented veggies, and when probiotics are involved, it’s safe to say that our immune system is happy and healthy! Your gut is like your second brain and it’s important to take care of it. As the saying goes, “Health is Wealth,” and that’s what the beauty of the best fermented vegetables contribute to, the wealth of your gut health by adding probiotics every time you eat fermented food or in this case the best fermented vegetables!

I hope this blog encourages you to take a walk or drive to a local grocery shop to get all these fresh vegetables so that you can begin fermenting!
